In 2010 the Young Researchers Project of the Soros Foundation - Kazakhstan supported research by Arsen Lukpanov– a research project titled Young People’s Motives for Participation in and Their Understanding of Volunteering as a Source of Experience and Relevant Knowledge.

The research aimed at learning how to motivate young people, what they strive for when they become volunteers, as well as analyzing how their attitudes have changed over the last three years.

In 2010 the Young Researchers Project of the Soros Foundation - Kazakhstan’s Youth Initiatives Program supported research by Malika Atasheva and Ainur Nurtai, young sociologists from Shymkent – a research project titled About the Accountability of NGOs Exemplified by Three NGOs from South Kazakhstan Oblast.

This report was prepared with financial support of the Soros Foundation-Kazakhstan in 2008 by Public Association "Credo" (Karaganda) and the School of Public Health (Almaty).

This publication provides information on contemporary situation with administrative procedures in Kazakhstan.   Authors addressed the most actual issues of regulating relationships with public authorities.   Cases that show developments of the legislation in this area in foreign countries have been picked up and analyzed. Finally, the publication also suggests what should be done in order to improve legislation in this area in Kazakhstan.

This publication demonstrates analysis of current legislation of Kazakhstan and practices on organization and provision of free (subsidized) legal aid in the country. One of the chapters sheds light on international experience and best practices in the field of free legal aid provision. The aim of the publication is to acquaint the reader with existing problems in that area and present recommendations on further improvement of the system for free legal aid provision.

The book examined the causal relationship of the internal migration of rural population to the towns and regional centers of Kazakhstan, provides an understanding of the migration situation on the example of rural regions and distressed neighborhoods on the outskirts of Almaty, conclusions and practical recommendations to regulate the process of internal migration.

The research concentrates not only on legal issues of the early motherhood, but also on ethnocultural, social and economic aspects and features of this phenomenon. The research results and recommendations can be used as a basis fordevelopment of complex programs in the field of family policy and minor mothersrights protection in Kazakhstan.

The research “Kazakhstan Mass Media: Key Participants, Possibilities, Needs and Risks” includes nearly 350 respondents from 10 regions of Kazakhstan. Editors-in-chief, media owners, publishers, state officials, NGO representatives and the journalism faculty of private and public universities participated in the study. The research team aimed at determining the essential needs and estimating potential risks for the further development of media market in Kazakhstan. The research framework will benefit media and donor organizations along with the state agencies.
