Photo-contest "Kazakhstan in close focus - 2010"

The photo contest was aimed at providing an equal opportunity for all to share their views of Kazakhstan via the art of photography. The contestants were given six main topics to get their inspiration from: Extractive regions: dreams and reality; Contrasts of regions; I am a witness; New generation of Kazakhstan; Ordinary people in focus, Reporters of Kazakhstan.

Yuriy Bekker was nominated as The Best Professional Photographer for his photo report about disabled people, ‘Men of an Unbending Spirit’ (100 thousand tenge).

This year it was decided to have additional prizes as an exceptional case. The Expert Committee decided to   give consolation prizes to the following photographers for their photo series:

Vladimir Zaikin for his photo series ‘Disabled Children’ (50 thousand tenge)

Valeriy Kaliyev for his photo series ‘Miner weekdays’ (50 thousand tenge)

Pavel Mikheyev for his two documentary photographs  ‘Life’s a long way’ and ‘Smile’ (25 thousand tenge)

Roman Gubanov was nominated as The Best Amateur Photographer for his series ‘Ordinary People in Focus’ (100 thousand tenge)

Consolation prize in this nomination was shared by Ivan Kovtunovkiy for a photograph ‘Unadjusted’ (25 thousand tenge) and Vitaliy Isikov for a photograph ‘No Pasaran’ (25 thousand tenge).
