Mission

 

To ensure equal access to information, right to freedom of expression by promoting the freedom of speech principles in the country.

 

Objectives

• Creation of conditions for free and well balanced expression of opinions in mass media and in the society
• Improvement of access to qualitative information
• Improvement of media legislation

Priorities in 2010

• Support of media NGOs, aimed at promotion of freedom of speech principles in the country. The projects include: monitoring of public contract in the field of information policies, encouragement of discussion on media self-regulation issues.
• Improvement of legislation on Internet regulation as a joint effort with Kazakhstani NGOs. Increasing involvement of the civil sector in the discussion of documents related to digital broadcasting transition, jointly with the National Association of Television and Radio Broadcasters. Improving people's access to qualitative information by advancing professionalism of journalists covering economic and social issues, developing investigative reporting skills and methodologies, as well as facilitating an efficient coverage of the OSCE chairmanship of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2010.
• Assistance in journalists protection - Encouragement of young lawyers to specialize in media law by helping them improve their skills and encouraging their activity, as well as providing free legal assistance through partner organizations.
