Soros Foundation – Kazakhstan
Established in September 1995 by the
Open Society Institute (OSI), Soros Foundation-Kazakhstan (SFK) is a
non-governmental non-profit organization
that works to promote democracy and civil society development in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
OSI was founded by George Soros, a global
financier and philanthropist. SFK is a member of the international network of
Soros national foundations operating in more than 60 countries worldwide. Since
the onset of its activities in Kazakhstan,
SFK has granted more than 50 million US dollars to promote the open society development
in the country.

with NGOs, donors, and government for a more tolerant, active society and
responsible, tolerant government

Priorities for 2010 -
2011
SFK operates within a bi-annual strategy
framework. Its priorities for 2010-2011 include:
Supporting the
transformation of the extraction industry revenues into sustainable social and
economic development of the nation by ensuring responsible and accountable
management of the state budget and facilitating dialogue between the civil society, government and businesses.
Promoting the rule of law, and
assisting in ensuring that national legislation is in line with the
international human rights standards and government commitments e.
Supporting access to information and freedom of expression
and speech.
Encouraging active youth participation
in social life of the nation and their own communities
