Found Soros Kazakhstan establishes a special grant of Anna Aleksandrova

ALMATY, on April 27, 2012 – The Fund Soros Kazakhstan (FSK) establishes a special grant of a name of Anna Aleksandrova for the purpose of support of the people advancing ideas and principles of social justice in society.

Anna Aleksandrova (1976-2011), the lawyer in the field of international law, devoted the life to advance of principles of social justice and protection of human rights. The strong leader, the public figure and the professional of the business, Anna brought up pressing legal questions, being in search of new and effective approaches to their decision. Anna Aleksandrova was chairman of the board Fonda Soros Kazakhstan in 2008-2011. Under its management the Fund accepted new strategy according to which questions of social justice and tolerance took a special place among Fund priorities.

The grant of Anna Aleksandrova is urged to continue her undertakings, to promote research, information and advokatsionny activities in the sphere of human rights and tolerance strengthenings. This grant is aimed at support of civil initiatives in the sphere of protection of the rights of socially vulnerable groups, such as consumers of injecting drugs, sexual minorities, minor offenders, persons without a certain residence, and also the persons released from places of imprisonment. Anna Aleksandrova devoted to protection of interests of these social groups all the life.

The board of trustees of FGC made the decision to found this grant and to carry out on an annual basis. The grant is allocated to individual persons, citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan aged from 18 years and is one carrying out more senior than research projects or information campaigns. The general grant fund will make 1.5 million tenges, following the results of competition two winners will be defined. The board of trustees of FGC expects that this grant will promote increase in number of the people extending and advancing ideals of social justice, and also projects, research works, information campaigns in the protection sphere
