On October 13 Kazakhstan citizens will celebrate the World Day of Hospices and Palliative Services*

According to the World Health Organization, annually about 24 million adult population of the world at the end of the course of life need the palliative help. 66% from them people are more senior than 60 years.

Main goal of the palliative help (from фр. Palliative from armor. pallium — a cover, a raincoat) is providing the highest possible level of quality of life of the patient through rendering medical, social, spiritual and psychological support to the patient and his family.

Despite growing requirement, in 42% of the countries of the world of service of hospices and the palliative help still aren’t introduced. “In Kazakhstan within the last several years active development of the palliative help is observed, however to speak about availability of palliative services to all categories needing for the present early. For this purpose it is necessary to combine efforts of the different parties – authorities, physicians, public organizations, clergy, volunteers”, Anton Artemyev, Chairman of the board Fonda Soros Kazakhstan considers.

In honor of the World Day of Hospices and Palliative Services which in 2012 drops out for October 13, thousands people from 60 countries of the world will gather to draw attention to questions of development of hospices and the palliative help.  The Kazakhstan public organizations and enthusiasts of the palliative help also don’t stand aside:

•  to Almaty, OF “Together against a Cancer” will carry out the stock “From Heart to Heart”.  Everyone can join FLASHMOBS in six different points of the city.  In more detail here:  http://oncology.kz

• ROO “Solar Circle” will show a series of SOCIAL ROLLERS about problems of the palliative help in our country – insufficient quantity of hospices, weak material base of palliative services, limitation of access to opioidny analgetics for pain treatment

• in Pavlodareseoo “Solaris” will start own WEB SITE which becomes a useful resource for those who needs the palliative help and for those who would like to make something for its advance. In more detail here: www.hospicesolyaris.kz (start of a site is planned on 19.10.12)

• in Karagandeoo “Adamgersh_l_k” will organize display of the FIRST Kazakhstan MOVIE about the PALLIATIVE HELP and access to opioidny analgetics “A goldfish: satisfy my pain” among students of the Karaganda State Medical University. The movie is available according to the link:

The Fund Soros Kazakhstan (FSK) consistently keeps development of the palliative help in Kazakhstan since 2008, including giving support to development of national standards of rendering the palliative help and financing the projects aimed at increase on professional development of doctors and nurses, working in the field of palliative medicine.

In the World Day of hospices and palliative services of FGC urges all to combine efforts for improvement of quality of life of incurably sick patients and their families.

* The world Day of Hospices and Palliative Services is spent every year on the second Saturday of October at the initiative of the World Alliance of the Palliative Help. The purpose – drawing attention to development of the palliative help around the world. This year as a subject the palliative help for the growing old population is chosen.
